 Messy Moody Monday!

Ok so Monday's are usually a trying day; however today was very busy day.  I had an early wardrobe malfunction.  I wore the wrong pants that I forgot to get hemmed.  Now I will definitely have to get the tailored.

Assessment assessments and more assessments!  I love assessing my students however sometimes I feel like enough is enough, and I want to TEACH already.  This put me in a real funk, but 12:00pm.  To top it off my students are slacking on homework and I don't understand.  It is the beginning of the year.  Come one already.  I am a homework teacher.  I believe in reinforcement, and that you can work to your potential- if you try.  Some of my struggling students are not completing their homework and it is frustrating me.  We sit and conference, in small group, and during extended day; which is an extra 37.5 minutes.  Yeah I said 37.5 minutes its a whole contractual thing lol.

I don't even overload them.  I think their still in summer mode.  WAKE UP I say it is almost October, and 2013 will be here in no time.  UGH I was annoyed I didn't give them their grades from their test on Friday either.  I told them if they didn't do their homework why should I share my homework with them.  Of course I will give them their scores, but I want my work without any excuses.

So tomorrow is another day, and I'm hoping that our rounding decimals lesson runs smoothly.  I have a ppt prepared (I am going to convert it to a prezi soon), differentiated small group instruction with a smile.  Some of my lovely have to finish publishing their 5th grade goals from yesterday's post.

Here is a level tasked that I created for rounding decimals.  I am going to use it during small group instruction tomorrow, then later put it in a folder for a center.

5th Grade Goals Freebie and more!

I meant to share a file with you all that I used this year with my students.  Every year I ask my student to write long term and short term goals for the new school year.  I have had to come up with clever and creative ways to present it because I have been getting bored with it myself.  The good thing about this assignment is that we can look back at their September goals and see that most of the goals, if not all were met before April.

Some of my student set goals that are interesting and amusing (not elementary at all :-))and when I read them I just chuckle.  Some I become dazed with after reading-  The SHADES of TEACHING, it comes in all hues lol.

Here is the publishing paper that was used this year.  My program has a great image of loose leaf paper.  I thought is was retro and cute at the same time with the added touches that I made to a blank canvas.

They look great displayed and backed with neon paper.

My students in the past loved The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and it seems like my new students enjoy Jeff Kinney as well.  Here is my ode to JK.  I got the idea from Sarah at Everybody is a Genius.  She is an interactive notebook wiz, and there is an assignment that she had her students do as a way of decor yet creativity with numbers.  I tweaked it a little of course.  The purpose is to think about numbers in a different way, how do you use numbers daily, or the numbers about you.  They wrote on their notebook similarly to a cover.  I immediately had an idea how to use it when I read the post from Sarah.  I can't find the actual post- it was during the summer.  When I find it I will post it then.

I gave my students a huge number five on paper, and they were to think of creative ways to write number about them.  They loved it, and I enjoyed reading them!  We are going to have a publishing showcase this Friday.  Here it is, it will be available at my TN store.

 Totally Exhausted

Hello Bloggers,

I have been so busy in the classroom as many of you this time of year I know.  I haven't had the energy to blog-  not even stalk!  I seem to have a sudden case of narcolepsy when I walk through the door, then I remember that I have a toddler that I have to entertain, feed, bathe, and put to bed. WOW how I miss my summer vacation already.

I hope to get back in many sort of new routine soon.  My new classes are great.  I have to great 5th grade classes, and one with 16 students and one with 18 students.  We have begun our routines and now I am grading baseline assessments.  I love this part.  It is amazing to see the progress throughout the year after these initial assessments.  So far my teacher eye have already spotted my helpers, doers, and need to pushers.  Back to School Night is this Thursday; which I think is backwards.  One day we will get it together and meet before the year if its agreed upon.

I have made an attempt to take picture daily, in hopes of having a great yearbook at the end of the school year and I have seen some talk about Pic 180!!!!

See you around, I hope all is well in the blogger world.  I can't wait to sit down and read blogs that I adore during my 2 days off. Pin It

 Dear Summer,

 Dear Summer,

It's been real!! I had a great time, relaxing and enjoying my little girl.  Now my respite is over, and it's time to enter the school house for REAL in the morning.  PD's and Pleasantries!!!!

I hope this school year ends up being just as successful as the years before.  I intend to teach my heart out, and make great friends and memories.  Yeah work hard too, have I implied that yet?

So it's almost time to say toodles to you.  I will enjoy this rest of your days, although the chills on my arms today told me otherwise.

P.S thanks for the extra time and head start; which allowed me to be- just about finished in my classroom? ;-)

Until Next Summer
Kim

The back is just about done.  I think I will cover the bookshelves.

My front board I wanted to do shower board, but I changed my mind.

My desk is neat now, because I am not quite finished taking things out.
